WELCOME TO 12LIGHTS
We, as part of the community of Shi‘ah Muslims—known also as Shī‘ī, or Shī‘īte—extend to you a heartfelt welcome.
Our identity is rooted in our unwavering adherence to the teachings of Islam as brought by the noble Prophet Muhammad (ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa ālihi wa sallam), and preserved from distortion by the hypocrites (munāfiqīn) through Allah’s (subḥānahu wa ta‘ālā) appointment of twelve infallible successors (ma‘ṣūmīn). These twelve, divinely chosen, ensured the protection and authentic transmission of the Prophet’s message.
We are particularly grateful for your interest in seeking the genuine teachings of Islam in this challenging era—when atheism and godlessness prevail on one hand, and extremism and violent fanaticism (even to the level of terrorism) are perpetrated on the other, tragically in the name of Islam by misguided individuals. These diverging currents are symptomatic of a deeper imbalance: between the physical appetites of the body and the spiritual longings of the soul.
The Search for Peace of Mind
The absence of a clear and purposeful understanding of life lies at the root of much human despair—manifesting in restlessness, suffering, moral confusion, and the erosion of inner peace. Islam, in its divine mercy, offers timeless and simple solutions to even the most complex of human dilemmas, grounded in three foundational principles:
-
We are called to recognize the absolute authority and countless favors of Allah (SWT), and to fulfill our responsibilities as His servants—by utilizing both body and soul in accordance with His will.
God has not only granted us the essential physical means for worldly survival—such as air, water, and sustenance—but has also bestowed Divine Guidance on a perpetual and universal basis, for the nourishment and elevation of the spirit.
The Sources of Divine Guidance:
• Divine Guides
The Prophets (‘alayhim as-salām): From Adam to Muhammad—including Ibrāhīm, Mūsā, Ya‘qūb, Yūsuf, ‘Īsā, and finally the Seal of Prophets, Muḥammad (ṣ)—each was entrusted with receiving the Divine Message and conveying it to humanity.
Lady Maryam (Mary), the mother of ‘Īsā (‘alayhā as-salām), and Fāṭimah al-Zahrā’ (alayhā as-salām), the beloved daughter of the Prophet (ṣ), though not prophets, were divinely chosen as exemplary models for women, entrusted with guidance specific to their role and station.
The Twelve Imams (‘alayhim as-salām): Appointed by Allah (SWT) through the Prophet Muḥammad (ṣ), these twelve successors safeguarded the pristine interpretation of the Qur’an and the traditions (aḥādīth) of the Prophet. They are:
Imam ‘Alī ibn Abī Ṭālib (as)
Imam Ḥasan al-Mujtabā (as)
Imam Ḥusayn al-Shaheed (as)
The nine Imams from the blessed progeny of Imam Ḥusayn (as), generation after generation.
The twelfth and final Imam (al-Mahdī, aj-jallallāhu farajah) remains in occultation and, by the will of Allah, will reappear alongside Prophet ‘Īsā (as) to establish peace and justice throughout the earth.
• The Revealed Scriptures
We affirm, as part of our faith, that the Holy Torah, the Holy Bible, and the Holy Qur’an are all revealed scriptures from Allah. The Holy Qur’an is the final, unaltered, and eternal message—confirming and culminating the messages brought by all previous prophets.
-
We must acknowledge the rights and responsibilities that Allah (SWT) has placed upon us in relation to His creation. These include duties toward:
Relatives, neighbors, and the broader community;
Colleagues and companions;
Animals and the environment.
-
We must also fulfill the divine trust placed within ourselves—by properly using the body and the soul as resources. This includes obedience to Allah’s commands and refraining from disobedience, in every sphere of personal, ethical, and spiritual life.
We invite you to journey with sincerity and openness through these teachings—to discover the tranquility, wisdom, and luminous clarity that the path of Islam, as preserved by the Ahl al-Bayt (‘alayhim as-salām), offers to the heart and mind in every age.
